John Parker

Life has changed! This blog was started at 9 am and finished at 3:30! Ahh the life of balancing a kid!!!

Mini Greg is here! Well technically he was here a week ago today but we've been a little busy trying to figure out life so this is one of many late posts. 7 pounds 2 oz and 19 3/4 inches long and two weeks early!

Okay so here is the quick version of how John Parker made his debut. Feel free to skip all the writing...just documenting...and go to the bottom for pics.

Last Tuesday (the 26th) I went to the nurse practitioner (because all the doctors were out for vacation and only 1 was on call so I was destined to have this kid) for my weekly check up. When she checked me she told me I was only dilated at a 1 1/2. Okay so the week before I was dilated at a 2. So I am pretty MAD that this had not progressed like I dreamed it would. I mean we had a plan and it included me being admitted into the hospital that day. Being sick and feeling small contractions was not fun....he was full term at this point.....I was ready! Well after the appointment mom and I went to McAlisters and as we were walking in I started having hip pain. Due to the fact that this pain was new and I've never been in labor before...I chalked it up as my hips are spreading so I can have a baby. We eat, shop (cutting it short b/c of the pain) and go home.

As we are pulling into town mom wants me to go to her house so she can "watch over me" until Greg gets home. The only thing I want to do is die but I insist on staying at my house so I can lay on the heating pad and will myself to live. I start to notice the hip and now leg pain seem to come and go every 7-8 minutes. In between the pain I hang some curtains and a few pictures (see previous posting about nesting) to take my mind off this horrible pain that keeps reoccurring exactly 7-8 minutes apart. In the mean time Greg sends my mom down to the house because he tried to call me and some lady from Trees and Trends answers my phone (meaning during this pain I got distracted and left my phone on the counter...oops). By the time mom walks in to check on me I am on all fours trying to breath. She calls Greg and tells him to come home. We load up the car and head to the hospital. On the 45 minute car ride my "pain" gets closer to 6-7 minutes. By the time we get to the hospital and I get checked I am dilated to a 4 almost 5! Oops I mistook the hip pain. But to my defense I've never had a kid, never once read in a book that labor can happen in your hips, and one nurse told me she never heard of that happening. That is the only place I could feel contractions throughout my entire labor! Crazy!!!

To be honest the labor was SO MUCH EASIER than being pregnant. When we checked into the hospital around 6 they thought I might have him by midnight...that's how quick I was progressing but unfortunately I slowed down. I got my friend the epidural when I was at a 6, was pushing by 3:30 am and he was born on the 27th at 4:31 am. Greg was a rock star through the whole thing until I puked after he was born. Yes, after months of holding by my hair, providing me with wash cloths, and rubbing my back as I puked my guts up on almost a daily basis...Greg could not handle me throwing up in the little blue bag that the hospital provided after birthing a 7 pound baby. After it was over I decided I could do anything until we got John Parker home and I couldn't figure out what we should do with him the first night! Does he sleep in his bed??? Am I feeding him enough???? Does he like us??? Yes these are questions that I quickly figured out but it was a stressful night and luckily it's behind us.

Since he has been born he's had numerous visitors from church, close friends, and family including his family from AR. Peed on me, his dad, gi gi and threw up on his dad. He likes to eat, smile, poop, and then sleep (in that order...just like his dad). JP has been on a little schedule of sleeping/eating every three hours and has slept a stretch between 4 1/2-5 hours for three nights! We won't talk about last night. He doesn't like his hands to be covered, likes to stretch, and ride in the car. JP is very hot natured and spends most of his time hanging out in onesies or just a diaper. Totally not how I pictured dressing him but it keeps him happy! He "passed" his first doctor's appointment and only lost 1 oz. When we took him back the next day for his "little boy" procedure and he already gained 2oz. So I'm thinking I have a little eater on my hands!

We are so blessed to have such a healthy baby. When the nurse was walking us to our car when we left the hospital I asked her how many babies they had in their NICU that day and she told me 16! It broke my heart to think about how much each of those families are going through. I felt so thankful that we were able to leave the hospital early because everything about John Parker and myself was great!

Below are some pics. Please keep in mind 1. he has eyes and likes to open them frequently except when we take pics 2. he has lots of dark hair especially in the back but it is rubbed off in the front so you can't see it 3. the gloves are his "man gloves" because he likes to scratch up his face and my chest when I feed him 4. in the pics where he looks like he is crying well he is actually stretching because our baby is PERFECT and never cries;)

Us in the hospital. He loves opening his eyes...it's one of his many talents as an infant!

Mr. Amazing wasn't having such an amazing moment!
Stretch time with his daddy.
