6 weeks

Do you think he looks annoyed by the continuous picture taking???
I'm pretty sure he's screaming "stop it mom!" in his head.

Well I am cutting this post very close to 6 weeks because technically today John Parker is 7 weeks and in baby lingo that means he is almost 2 months. Crazy!! I cannot believe we've had our little man that long. I'm gonna be honest, parenting is way harder than it looks. I'm around awesome moms all the time and they make me think that it's as easy as raising a goldfish. BUT the older John Parker gets the easier this whole parenting thing becomes...along with a little help from Previcid, the most expensive formula on the store shelves, gas drops, butt paste and good help from family and friends....we've got this parenting thing down. Seriously, we just love our little guy so much! He is so sweet and cuddly (is that a word?) and LOVES to smile at us which is the greatest thing in the whole world.

Okay so the update on the baby milestones...

Right now you don't believe in sleeping during the day. Seriously. From 5:30 am to 7:30 pm there might be two 30 min naps with one hour long nap if I'm lucky. The wonderful thing about you not sleeping during the day is you sleep great at night. Most nights you are sleeping in two "shifts" of 4-4 1/2 hours waking around 3:30 wanting to eat and IF we are lucky you go right back to sleep until 7ish. Ya, that last part has only happened a few times but we're really talking it up to you in hopes that you make some changes for us;)

So during the day what does a 6 week old do when they won't sleep??? I'm a teacher therefore we are suppose to be creative beings but coming up with things to do with an alert 6 week old is the hardest challenge I've had yet....therefore we travel! A typical day would includes a morning walk in your Bob Stroller (the post about this fabulous creation is coming soon), visiting Gi, looking at pictures on the wall, looking at Nolan out the door, staring at the toys that I play with in front of you, and you LOVE listening to your Belly Button book that Aunt Beth got you which I'm pretty sure you are reading along with me. You love a pallet, your kick mat, and greeting visitors. You weighed 9 pounds 6 ounces at your last appointment. I'm pretty sure you are 10+ now. You are wearing 0-3 months clothes and hate wearing socks. Still sleeping on your stomach and will flip yourself over occasionally then screaming bloody murder until someone saves you!

The only issues we have right now are bathing, sitting in the swing, and being put down. Sidebar: Yes my child will scream until someone picks him up and for all those super parents out there I am aware this is a bad habit but I have set him down to let him cry it out for longer than I would like to admit (and most books call for) and he will not stop. It's hard to break when you have a continuous cycle of visiting grandmas and lurking neighbors!

So far we have made trips to Fayetteville for a wedding, Cape to shop with Gi (not gonna lie you really seemed ok with us spending money...hmmm dad), the farm, to the Barnes house for pool parties, church, My Daddy's Cheesecake, an overnight at Gi and Pa Pa's house (which by the way you did last night so mom can "refocus her momminess" and get some sleep) and to visit at your dad's work. Not once were you completely content with your car seat but we managed and haven't let it slow us down. You've been such a trooper on all your trips and we are so proud of you!!

Below are some catch up pictures from the past few weeks. Next to come is the nursery. I have noticed that we are starting to be less cautious with picking up in there since we are always on the go so I better get pictures asap of it while it still looks decent!!!

To Fayetteville for Emily's wedding

We are in West Plains MO on our way. While everyone was grabbing food in McDonalds I was in the backseat changing JP in the parking lot. I learned lots traveling with a 5 week old!

Rehearsal dinner after party. This is a group of gals (minus a few that came in town the next day) that I grew up with. It was so fun to hang out with everyone! Emily (the bride) is in the white next to me. Sidebar: We went to a piano bar after the rehearsal and it became REALLY crowded (with most people half my age) and all the moms in this pic immediately wanted to leave. We were talking about how you start noticing things like fire code. My problem with being in this establishment (aside from being way too old) was there were too many people, so therefore it would be hard to exit in the event of a fire and Greg and I were in the same place so if there were a disaster then our child would be left parentless. Ahh the drama and how times have changed. We all got a good laugh at our worries!

The beautiful bride!

A quick family pic after the wedding.
John Parker did so good throughout the wedding, sleeping through most of it!!

Girlfriends posing with JP. Notice how in pictures he is always staring at the person holding him. I'm pretty sure he has trust issues.

Another highlight of the wedding was seeing my friend Beth! She took pictures for Em's wedding. It was so great to see her!!!

Rocking as everyone loaded the car.
Just one of the many perks of having a baby is you can grab him and get out of heavy lifting!

So what did John Parker do while mom and dad attended wedding events??? Well this is how we found him each night...
Because of this fabulous woman. This is our wedding nanny! Jessica came up from Tyler, TX to visit family and on her way to MO stopped in Fayetteville to help watch JP (mom helped with Caroline) and it was WONDERFUL to have her help. She also helped with him while we did our annual JI Golf Tournament when we got home. John Parker LOVES his Aunt Jess and will be visiting her each summer in Texas:) Thanks again Jess and it was great seeing you!

So this is what it's like traveling in the car (notice the look of unhappiness and the hand gripping the cow's ring) so Jill gave me this fabulous item that Caroline used.....

and we have a content baby! He loves looking at his picture mat. You hang it on the back of the seat and JP just stares and is real serious about studying each figure as we travel down the road. The kids IQ is going to be out of this world! My favorite part of using this is he doesn't scream every time I put him in the car! Ahhh Thanks Jill!

Visiting the farm

This is the only picture I got of John Parker's first visit to the farm. He slept most of the time. Grandma and Grandpa watched him while Greg and I ran some errands. He loved it even though he never left the house but I am guessing he will be spending lots of time hanging out on the tractors when he gets a little older!

The Encounter
This is Caroline and John Parker's first real encounter and notice Jill is holding him. Notice Caroline climbing on Jill's lap. Notice JP's oblivious demeaner. Men. After taking the picture I quickly grabbed JP so Caroline could protect her momma from this little guy. I'm pretty sure she will dress him in her doll clothes and order him to do whatever she demands when he gets a little older. Mintues later (and JP in my arms) this is what she looked like. Back to her happy world! Isn't she precious!!!

July isn't over. We still have Relay, vacation, and more baby memories to capture!
